Update #1 -- 100% Funded in 8 Hours! Incredible!!! Also, herein lies the rules.
about 5 years ago – Sat, Feb 09, 2019 at 04:19:01 AM

Dear Backers,

Wow! We reached our funding goal in less than 8 hours!!! I am blown away! Seriously amazing you guys.

One of the main questions we’ve been asked is ‘What are the rules?’, and so we’ve been working on whipping up some kickstarter friendly graphics that will lay it all out for you. But for those of you who cannot wait for that, here is an all text version:

Game Setup

Deal out 4 Cast-On Cards (time trackers) to each player along with the matching Blocking Mat. Place these 4 cards in a row face down in front of each player on the table.

Shuffle the Yarn Store Deck and deal 5 cards to each player. Stock the Yarn Store with the remaining cards.

Shuffle the Pattern Deck and deal 3 pattern cards to each player.

Shuffle the Knitting Community Deck and place it face down next to the Pattern Deck.

Yarn Store

Stocking the yarn store: Place the Yarn Store deck in the middle of the table. Solid colors that get flipped up are placed in four spots along the sides of the deck. When stocking or restocking the yarn store if a solid color shows up more than once, it gets stacked on top of its matching color. Wild cards go in the four corners. If four Wild cards are face up and a fifth Wild card is drawn during a restock, all face up yarn in the store must be discarded and the Yarn Store is then restocked with new cards.

Shopping at the yarn store: If a player draws a face up Wild card from the Yarn Store, that player may only take one card on that turn, otherwise, players can draw two face down cards OR two stacks of stocked solid colored yarn OR one face down card and one stack of a stocked solid colored yarn.

Taking Your Turn

Each turn involves a number of actions, not all of them necessarily happening on every turn.

Players must follow this order:

1. KNIT — advance any previously Cast-On patterns ahead one week. If you complete  a pattern, discard the yarn, place the pattern card (FO) on the Blocking Mat and flip the Cast-On card over so that the empty needles are face up.

2. Choose one:

“BUY” NEW YARN FROM THE YARN STORE — Draw one wild card or two stacks of stocked yarn cards or two from the deck or one from the deck and one stack of stocked yarn.

or

PICK OUT NEW PATTERNS — Draw 3 cards from the top of the pattern deck. Players can keep all three or choose to discard one pattern. Discarded patterns should be placed back on the bottom of the pattern deck.

3. CAST-ON — Only one pattern can be Cast-On per turn. To cast-on, flip over a Cast-On card so that the time tracker is face up. Place required yarn behind the Cast-On card so that everyone at the table can see each color and then place the Pattern card on top so that just the words Cast-On are showing.

4. RESTOCK THE YARN STORE -- This will signal that your turn is over and the next player can begin.

*At any point during your turn (before restocking the store for the next player) you can buy and/or play any number of Community Cards. Community cards cost 5 yarn cards. The Community Deck is filled with a mix of action cards, good deed cards and mini patterns.

Bonus Points for Knitting In Real Life

These are optional rules for hardcore knitters

If a player creates a FO in game while knitting on the same pattern in real life [while playing], that pattern’s FO points count double.

If a player creates a FO using yarn cards that match skeins they are knitting with in real life [while playing], add the card(s) to the Blocking Mat along with the pattern card after creating the FO. Each yarn card on the blocking mat count as 10 points.

Winning the Game

The last round begins with the first player to place 100 or more FO points on their Blocking Mat. All other players get one more turn. At the end of the final round players reveal what they have in their hands and all points are tallied.

Count all FO points along with any secret points earned from collecting Community Cards. Patterns still in a player’s hand count as negative, WIPs (works in progress) count as 0.

If there is a tie, the player with the most stash in-game wins. If there is still a tie, the player with the biggest stash in real life wins.

Knitting Terms [as used in this game]

Knitting — Each pattern card has a time requirement that varies between 2 and 7 weeks. On the turn following a cast-on and every turn thereafter, a player knits that pattern by advancing the time card ahead one week.

Stash — Yarn cards that are in a player’s hand. Denotes ownership.

FO — Finished Object. A completed project.

Blocking Mat — A place to put your FOs. The final step.

Again, we want to thank you all for your support and encouragement! Let’s keep this going so that we can reach some super fun stretch goals! Stay tuned for sneak peeks.

Keep knitting, Friends
